Obviously one of my favorite families to shoot, these kids are always troopers in what can be a difficult childhood experience.

When Roslyn’s mom asked me to take her pictures she warned me – Roslyn has a really hard time smiling for the camera. So we decided to try moving around and playing a lot, and just try to catch the real thing.

The funniest part of this shoot? Anytime we had Roslyn sit still and try to smile at the camera she would try (she and mom had clearly had a good talk about smiling beforehand), but that meant that she looked at the camera with a pained face and kept repeating over and over, “Smile. Smiiile. Smile” She thought if she said it, she must be doing it. Sure enough, look what we captured!

It’s always an interesting experience taking your own family’s photos. How do you make sure everything is perfect with a tripod and a camera? I definitely feel more comfortable behind the camera, but we did get some good stuff.

It’s always neat to shoot at a temple- they’re such beautiful buildings and peaceful places. But usually the photographer is running around trying to find the best shots on a wedding schedule. Not this time, I got to shoot the best, happiest family in the world that day. Roger & Shaundalee recently adopted adorable little Briella, and I got to take some family pictures for them right after she was sealed to their family forever. What an awesome experience!
